B.C. mining plan called propaganda

VANCOUVER

The B.C. government has announced a 10-year plan to expand the province’s already rebounding mining and ex- ploration industry.

However, an environmental group called it “propaganda,” saying the government has removed management tools and protection.

“The plan will help ensure the resurgence of the historic and vital industry,” said Energy and Mines Minister Richard Neufeld as he released the plan in Vancouver on Tuesday.

Industry representatives support the report, but say Ottawa also plays a large part in B.C’s mining process.

Mike McPhie of the Mining Association of B.C. said often the federal government makes the final decision on some of the projects.
