B.C. apprenticeships booming

RICHMOND, B.C.

Apprenticeship training in B.C. appears to be on the right track.

With less than two months remaining in its first full year of operation, B.C.’s Industry Training Authority reports it has already exceeding its targets. The number of apprentices and employers involved continues to increase.

As of Jan. 31, almost 19,000 apprentices were registered — up 29 per cent from the number at the end of last March. In addition, more than 9,700 employers were sponsoring apprentices — up eight per cent. The Industry Training Authority had set growth goals of 30 per cent for trainees and 18 per cent for employers over a three-year period.
