Ottawa invests $9M in N.B. airport hangar

MONCTON

The federal government has announced it is investing $9 million in a state-of-the-art airport hangar in New Brunswick.

Claudette Bradshaw, MP for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, said the construction will mean a big boost for the region’s aerospace industry.

The hangar will house Transport Canada and RCMP aircraft, and serve as an operations and maintenance facility.

Construction by a Quebec company is expected to begin in March at the Greater Moncton International Airport site.

The facility is expected to be ready by spring of next year.

The airport’s old hangar was built during the Second World War and doesn’t meet current building codes.

Transport Canada’s Maurice Landry said it would have cost more to renovate the old building than to build a new one.
