$7.5M processing plant proposed for Alberta

SYLVAN LAKE, Alta.

A $7.5-million beef, bison and elk processing plant has been proposed for Sylvan Lake.

The state-of-the-art facility would process meat almost entirely for European markets, said Fred Lebedoff, development manager for the Beju Light Industrial Park.

The facility will work to European standards, which are higher than North American standards.

“It is a facility that is desperately needed for central Alberta and Alberta for that matter,” said Lebedoff, adding that the investors have declined to identify themselves until they see how the project is being received.

Sylvan Lake’s economy currently centres mainly on the service and tourism industries.
