Hanfeng Evergreen wins landscaping contract for Beijing Olympic site
TORONTO
Hanfeng Evergreen Inc. has won a $4.5-million landscaping contract for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
The Toronto-based company has signed a contract to provide landscaping design and construction for the Olympic training base in Qinhuangdao, a coastal city in eastern China’s Hebei province.
The project began this month and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. It is one of several landscaping contracts in China by Hanfeng, which estimates it has more than $45 million in signed contracts and letters of intent for landscaping.
“We are very pleased to be contributing to the greening of China in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games,” said Xinduo Yu, CEO and chairman of Hanfeng.
“To attract large international events, like the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, China has increased investment in urban greening. More importantly, there is a growing recognition in China that sustainable growth requires increasing investment in environmental protection.”
Qinhuangdao, 300 kilometres east of Beijing, is one of four cities named by officials as venues for Olympic soccer. Qinhuangdao has completed its Olympic soccer stadium and has hosted a number of international sporting events in recent years. Toronto-based Hanfeng has operations in Dalian, Shanghai and Beijing. The company also imports fertilizers, trees and other plants from North American and European suppliers.
