New justice centre opens, more to come

PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S.

The ribbon has been cut at a new $12-million justice centre that will serve northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

The building in Port Hawkesbury, N.S. is the first of a series of courthouse complexes under construction in the province.

Justice Minister Michael Baker says the lessons learned in this first project will help smooth the way at similar buildings, which are not yet finished, in Bridgewater and Yarmouth.

The 45,500-square-foot justice centre has three courtrooms, five holding cells, private meeting rooms for lawyers and their clients, and offices for court administration staff, among other things.
