Construction site unearths relics of past

TORONTO

A piece of history was transported from its original resting place to a new sanctuary last week.

Queen’s Wharf, one of the first wharfs built along the original Lake Ontario waterfront in the mid 1800s, was discovered by the builders of Malibu at Harbourfront as they excavated to create the foundation of a new condominium. The construction site is located at Lakeshore Boulevard and Bathurst Street.

The wharf was part of a series of docks buried as a result of landfill in the early 1900s as Toronto expanded its presence along Lake Ontario.

Malibu excavated a portion of this wharf and presented it to the Friends of Fort York, who will preserve it for future generations.
