Shopping centres under renovation

TORONTO

Construction has begun on a major $42 million renovation at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre. This latest renovation plan follows a $60 million expansion completed in April 2005.

The renovations will be consistent with those of the 2005 expansion using the same design elements and premium finishes and materials, with a range of flooring, ceiling and lighting system upgrades.

Construction began in January 2006 and project completion is scheduled for fall 2007. MMC International Architects is the prime consultant, and the general contactor is EllisDon.

Meantime, Square One Shopping Centre launched Phase Two of its four-phase, $32 million renovation and expansion.

The project will segment the 1.8 million square foot shopping centre into distinct neighbourhoods, with prominent and easy to navigate way-finding throughout the three districts of Cityside, Northside and CentreWalk. At completion, each neighbourhood will be separated by a transition area with the feel of a hotel lobby.

The $32 million renovation at Square One began in 2004 and is scheduled to finish in 2007 with the completion of Phase Four.
