Awards of Excellence for Ontario
Ontario Association of Architects’ recognition
TORONTO
The Bata Headquarters in suburban Toronto, a building threatened with demolition, has received the Ontario Association of Architects’ (OAA) 2006 Landmark Award.
The award, to be presented to NORR Ltd., Architects and Engineers, the successor firm to John B. Parkin who designed the building, recognizes a project’s ability “to stand the test of time.”
The Don Mills project was built at the height of early international modernism.
“It’s a landmark building,” NORR vice-president Silvio Baldassarra told Daily Commercial News.

The Bata Headquarters in Toronto, which is threatened with demolition, received the Ontario Association of Architects’ 2006 Landmark Award. The award recognizes a project’s ability “to stand the test of time”.
“It’s an elegant solution to a small office building. Obviously, we’re not happy that this building may be removed.”
The award was one of several dozen announced Wednesday by the OAA. The awards recognize the best in Ontario architectural design, innovation and business.
New buildings in Dundas, Kleinburg, Markham, Ottawa, Peterborough and Toronto have been honoured.
One hundred and sixty-seven submissions were received and reviewed by two juries.
In a news release, the OAA said the award-winning projects “illustrate the diversity, expertise and leadership within the profession today.”
