Middle management training needs

OTTAWA

The Canadian Mechanical Contracting Education Foundation (CMCEF) has set up task forces to develop a national supervisory education program and advanced project management training.

Tania Johnston, executive director of the Ottawa-based foundation, told Daily Commercial News the organization hopes to have programs in place within the next six to 12 months.

“This is a huge issue in the industry,” she said. “There is a shortage of management personnel, particularly supervisors. They need to get these individuals trained and up to speed.”

The foundation is collaborating with the Construction Sector Council on the program. The council’s mandate is to identify and address the construction industry’s human resources needs.

The council is drafting curriculum standards for that course, which will be four to five days in duration.
