Markham announces first LEED residential building

MARKHAM, ON

Times Group Corporation will develop the first residential building in Markham designed to meet LEED certification standards.

Majestic Court, a $100 million project to be located at Highway 7 and Warden Avenue, will be designed to use approximately 30 per cent less energy and 40 per cent less water, and provide greater indoor air quality than equivalent non-LEED developments. It is expected the project will create a standard for sustainable development design in new high-density residential developments in Markham, the York Region and the GTA.

“We’re seeing a growing trend of creating sustainable communities and greater demand from developers and prospective buyers for building designs that meet LEED performance,” said Stephen Carpenter, President, Enermodal Engineering Ltd.

Construction of Majestic Court is due to begin mid-summer 2006 and will be complete by March 2008.
