Union takeover ruling to be expedited
TORONTO
The Ontario Labour Relations Board says it will move to expedite a ruling in the war between Universal Workers Union Local 183 and the U.S. parent Labourers International Union of North America by the end of May.
All parties have until today to make submissions on all matters and the board says it will hold consultations over the next month.
In a decision released Wednesday, the OLRB says it is in the interests of all parties to resolve the claims as quickly as possible.
The Toronto Local has been accused of forging documents, inappropriate spending and failing to enforce the rights of some members, charges angrily rejected by the local’s managers.
