Construction training for newcomers
TORONTO
The Ontario government is investing almost $14 million in 24 new programs to help more skilled newcomers work in their field.
The new bridge training programs include funding for carpentry, construction and architecture.
The Ontario Association of Architects will receive $58,100 to create mentoring relationships for 41 newcomers who were previously trained as architects and assists 25 newcomers to advance into the profession. Funding will also be used to conduct outreach to promote the value of internationally trained architects to 150 employers and develop training materials to facilitate implementation of a long term mentoring program.
And $341,300 is being invested in George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology to provide 50 newcomers with graduate certificates in construction management.
