Transportation

Roadbuilders anxious to work with Cansfield

TORONTO

The province’s new transportation minister, Donna Cansfield, doesn’t bring a wealth of experience in transportation to her new post. But that isn’t unusual among new ministers and should not affect how well she does the job, Rob Bradford, executive director of the Ontario Road Builders Association, told Daily Commercial News.

The former Minister of Energy and chair of the government’s Conservation Action Team, Cansfield was a school board trustee for 15 years, including chair of the Toronto District School Board, before her election as an MPP in 2003.

“She appears to be a very competent minister, so we’re looking forward to working with her,” said Bradford. “At the ministry of energy, she appeared to be a very capable woman who was moving the files forward in a very professional manner.”

ORBA hopes to meet with Cansfield soon, said Bradford.

Upon the announcement of her new post, Cansfield said she travelled north in her role as energy minister to find transportation issues were on the minds of many of her constituents.

“I see this as a huge opportunity to take a look at the whole issue of transportation across the province.”
