Windsor hospital to undergo expansion
WINDSOR
The provincial government has announced an investment in Windsor Regional Hospital’s Western Campus.
The project at the hospital’s Western Campus includes construction of a new facility for up to 59 longer-term mental health beds as well as renovations to modernize existing facilities to accommodate rehabilitation and complex continuing care programs.
Construction is expected to begin in 2008-2009.
“Planning is a very complex task since it involves mental health, complex continuing care and rehabilitation services. Construction of the specialized mental health building will commence in 2008,” said Ron Truant, Board Chair of the Windsor Regional Hospital.
“In the meantime, comprehensive planning, tender calls and related activities are required to ensure successful coordination, collaboration and completion of all of these projects.”
When completed, the mental health beds currently at the Western Campus will be transferred to HDGH.
This will result in a consolidated acute adult mental health program for the residents of Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor Regional Hospital is an initiative under the Alternative Financing and Procurement fund.
This means construction work will be financed and carried out by the private sector, which will assume the project risks for ensuring delivery on time and on budget.
