B.C. company to build factory in China

RICHMOND, B.C.

Ascalade Communications Inc. is building a new US$17 million factory in Qingyuan, China. Construction will begin in the second quarter of 2006 and transition from the existing facility into the new one should be complete by the fall of 2007.

The new facility is the outcome of a nine-month analysis of manufacturing alternatives which included leasing additional space, outsourcing portions of its product assembly, in addition to relocating and building its own factory.

The decision to build a factory provides the company with an opportunity to benefit from more reliable power sources and increased availability of labour. The company purchased the land use rights to 200 acres for about US$1.2 million.
