Festival Centre gets $25M from feds TORONTO

TORONTO

The Canadian government has confirmed its $25 million contribution toward the Toronto International Film Festival Group’s (TIFFG) Festival Centre, a global centre to celebrate film and the moving image.

Located in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district on the northwest corner of King and John streets, the five-storey facility will house TIFFG activities, including five theatres, a film reference library, a gallery and exhibition space, and an education centre for all ages.

Designed by the award-winning Toronto-based architectural firm Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg (KPMB), the centre is currently scheduled to open in 2009.

To date, more than $132 million has been raised towards the campaign goal of $196 million (including capital, endowment and operating).
