Renkema to open communications

OTTAWA

Karen Renkema has hit the ground running as vice-president of policy and government relations for the Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA).

Renkema assumed her responsibilities June 12.

In an interview with Daily Commercial News, Renkema said it is “exciting” to be involved in an industry which drives Ontario’s economy and touches the lives of every Ontarian.

As well, she said, it is a “privilege” to represent such a well-respected association.

Renkema, whose career includes stints as policy analyst with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and as chief of staff to a Michigan state legislator, said her priorities are promoting and maintaining positive relationships with the government.

“It is impotant for COCA to maintain and increase its profile.”

“It is important for COCA to maintain and increase its profile,” she said.

As part of her duties, Renkema also will provide lead staff support for the association’s apprenticeship working group and its Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) committee.

“Whether it is return-to-work regulations, rate increases or mandatory coverage for the construction industry, there will always be hot issues to deal with when it comes to the WSIB.”
