Quebec firm secures hydro plant in Chile

MONTREAL

Engineering and construction firm Dessau-Soprin recently secured a major contract for the design and engineering of the Rucatayo hydroelectric power plant in southern Chile. The project is estimated at more than US$70 million.

The station will include two groups of turbo-generators providing a total nominal capacity of 60 MW. The station will produce more than 300 GWh of electricity per year. The contract also includes the design of a 220kV power line, on a distance of approximately 36 km, to link the power plant to an existing substation.

The project will be designed by the Chilean firm Ingentra, a subsidiary of Dessau-Soprin, in consortium with EDIC Ingenieros of Santiago. Work will begin this month and will be completed by summer 2007.
