Tanks, pipes, schools being built
CALGARY
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. are building a new crude oil tank farm in Edmonton.
Construction of the new facility will begin this summer. It will be located just north of the Trans Mountain Pipeline storage facility owned and operated by Kinder Morgan Canada.
Situated on approximately 24 acres, the new facility will have nine tanks with a storage capacity of nearly 2.2 million barrels.
The contract to build the new tank farm was awarded to a Canadian subsidiary of CB&I. Service is expected to begin late 2007.
Meanwhile, Enbridge Inc. is extending its reach into the Gulf of Mexico by building one short natural pipeline and buying another to tie-in to large new gas fields planned for the region.
Calgary-based Enbridge said it will build an 18-kilometre lateral natural gas line to connect with the $4.4 billion US deepwater Shenzi field when it begins production. No costs for the pipelines were disclosed.
The company expects the 12-inch-diameter line to carry more than 100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2007, with gas flowing by the middle of 2009
The University of Manitoba will construct a new $4 million aboriginal student centre to help natives feel more at home on campus and expose others to their culture and heritage.
Manitoba Metis Federation President David Chartrand presented the university with a cheque for $100,000 on Tuesday towards the construction of the centre.
It will offer academic, financial, cultural and counselling services, as well as an elder-in-residence to offer advice, traditional teachings and spiritual support.
Construction of the building is scheduled to begin in the fall.
