Kingston rec centre moving forward

KINGSTON

The City of Kingston has received the site plan application for the Kingston Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre. The plan was recently filed by EllisDon. It will be before the planning committee at a special meeting later this summer.

Growth commissioner Cynthia Beach expects the design/build contract with EllisDon will be finalized early next week.

Details of the operator contract, as awarded to O&Y/SMG, are also moving forward. However, the 50 per cent ownership interest of O&Y/SMG held by O&Y Enterprise has been assumed by Arcturus Realty Corporation. The new name of the company is Arcturus/SMG.

While site preparation continues at and around the future home of the sports and entertainment centre, a ground-breaking celebration is being planned July 25.

The $41.7 million centre will open in December 2007.
