Site chosen for new ethanol plant

PETERBOROUGH

The site for a new ethanol plant in the Havelock area north of Peterborough has been chosen.

It is an old 3M property that shut down about three years ago.

Construction is to start in the spring.

Once in operation, the plant is expected to produce 80 million litres of ethanol each year.

Earlier this month, production began at the St. Clair Ethanol Plant near Sarnia — the largest ethanol production facility in Canada.

It is expected to produce 200 (m) million litres per year.

Three other facilities are planned for Cornwall, Hensall and Aylmer to turn corn kernels into fuel.
