50 years in N.A.

RICHMOND, B.C.

Lafarge celebrated its 50th anniversary in North America Monday at its first plant built on the continent.

Lafarge first built its flagship cement plant in the city of Richmond, B.C. in 1956. Within two decades, it established itself as the leader in the Canadian cement industry and continued to span its operations across the continent.

Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company expanded into the United States. Today, Lafarge produces cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, asphalt and gypsum wallboard, and employs more than 16,000 people at approximately 1,000 operational sites throughout North America.
