Repairs to Garden City Skyway Bridge

ST. CATHARINES

Construction repairs for nine piers as part of the long-term plan to keep the Garden City Skyway Bridge in good condition will soon be underway.

Underground Services Limited of Bolton was awarded the $4.2-million construction contract with completion set for December 2006.

This is the third in a series of five projected pier repair projects to maintain the Garden City Skyway Bridge. The first project was completed in 2004 and the second finished in 2005.

“Once this project is complete, these piers will not need major repairs for another 15 years,” noted Transportation minister Donna Cansfield. “The Garden City Skyway Bridge is part of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and a link to the Niagara border crossing for more than 75,000 commuters, families, tourists and truck drivers every day.”
