Siemens wins $1B bid for power stations

BERLIN

Germany’s Siemens AG won a US$1-billion contract to build two power stations in Argentina.

The 830-megawatt gas and steam-turbine stations will be built for power companies Termoelectrica Manuel Belgrano and Termoelectrica Jose de San Martin.

In addition, Siemens said it had been awarded a contract to maintain the power stations for 10 years.

Building is expected to begin at the start of 2007. The first station is scheduled to be brought on line by the first half of 2008, with the entire two-station project due for completion by early 2009.
