Construction Advisory Council sets priorities on main issues

Insiders are tight-lipped about the first meeting of the Construction Advisory Council (CAC) held Dec. 14.

The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan and Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA) appointee David Keueneman.

The CAC is a forum for government and the construction industry to provide feedback on issues significant to the industry.

COCA president David Frame says the meeting went well and Caplan was happy with what transpired.

“The minister was certainly showing he was supportive of the idea and wants to work with the industry and recognizes the importance of the issue. But we have a little work to do to get direction down,” said Frame.

“There were 15 or more issues on the table and we decided we could only focus on three of them.”

The meeting was a brainstorming session to get most of the construction industry’s suggestions out in the open.

“We put a little working group together to prioritize the ideas and bring them back to a meeting in March,” added Frame.

The meeting drew members from the Ontario General Contractors Association, Ontario Association of Architects, Toronto Construction Association, Ontario Road Builders Association Consulting Engineers of Ontario, RESCON and the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association.
