Attack underground economy: Goldhawk

TORONTO

Governments should launch an attack against Canada’s giant underground economy, says a consumer advocate.

“The underground economy is overrun with cheap crooks and leeches peddling fictitious bargains,” says Dale Goldhawk.

The underground economy damages honest businesses through unfair competition and deprives Canadians of an estimated $30 billion in tax revenues, says Goldhawk.

“Governments should at least make Canadians aware of this growing problem,” he adds. “But they say little or nothing about this rogue elephant in the marketplace.”
