Ipsco expanding in U.S.

LISLE, Ill.

Ipsco Inc. is spending US$40 million to build a tubular goods heat-treatment facility beside its pipe mill in Blytheville, Ark.

The new plant will produce heat-treated tubular goods for the oil industry, with production expected to begin in the third quarter, adding 100,000 tons of annual capacity.

Combined with a heat-treatment facility in Baytown, Texas and existing capacity in Calgary and at plants in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, Ipsco’s total tubular heat-treat capacity will be 575,000 tons a year.

“The additional capacity is designed to position Ipsco for further growth in value-added energy tubular product markets by taking advantage of the growing demand for high-grade heat-treated products,” stated chief technology officer Joseph Russo.
