Discovery of human remains halts construction at Ingersoll construction site

INGERSOLL, ONT.

Construction at a housing development in Ingersoll, Ont., has been halted after human remains, believed to be from an old cemetery, were found.

An archeologist was expected to be at the job site this week to examine the find, believed to be the remains of at least three people. The site was once occupied by Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, built in the mid-1800s. Historical documents indicate a small cemetery was behind the church, which was abandoned in 1878 when a new brick church was built.

The cemetery was eventually moved and contractor Brian Conn says “chances are they missed a few bodies when they moved it.”
