Sudbury firm fined $20,000 for TSSA violation

TIMMINS, ONT.

A Sudbury company, Ontario 1039434 Ltd., has pleaded guilty under the elevating devices section of the Technical Standards and Safety Act and has been fined $20,000 plus a 25% victim surcharge. In June 2007, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) investigated mechanical problems with a passenger elevator at St. Mary’s Manor in Timmins.

The owner was subsequently charged with five counts under the Act for its unsafe operation. Ontario 1039434 Ltd. pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the elevator was not used unless maintained by a registered contractor.
