Bird takes flight at McMaster University’s Engineering Building

Construction progresses at the new Engineering Building at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
With the structure in place and the topping-off ceremony over, construction manager Bird Construction Co. is now overseeing the interior and exterior work at McMaster University’s $35-million Engineering Building.
Bird began the six-storey, multi-use facility, which was designed by Vermeulen/Hind Architects, in spring 2007. The building is scheduled to be finished in summer 2009.
Consultants are Halcrow Yolles (structural); and Vanderwesten + Rutherford Associates Inc. (mechanical/electrical).
Subtrades include Ragno Excavating; Reimar Forming Construction (rebar supply/formwork); Vision Almet Ltd. (structural steel); LaFarge Canada Ltd. (concrete supply); GA Masonry; Mattina Mechancial; Kraun Electric Inc.; General Sprinklers Inc.; Stouffville Glass (windows); and ThyssenKrupp Elevator Ltd.
