Construction Specifications Canada bestows Life Membership Awards

Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) has bestowed its prestigious Life Membership Awards on two retired members, Guy Duchesneau of its Quebec chapter and Roy Ball of its Saskatoon chapter.

The award is the highest honour conferred on individual members in recognition of service to the association.

Throughout his career at Laval University’s School of Architecture and his involvement in the chapter, Duchesneau “always promoted” CSC’s mission of improvement of communications, documentation and technical information in the construction industry.

A member of the association since 1976, Duchesneau has been the Quebec chapter’s administrator since the early 1980s and its director from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.

“Guy is the only member who has been part of the Quebec section since its foundation and remains an active supporter even after retiring from his work,” said retiring CSC president Michael Schneider.

Ball, who first became involved in CSC in 1968 when he joined the Saskatoon chapter, served in various capacities including chair before being elected CSC president in 1983. Co-ordinator of the National Master Specification program from 1976 to 1989, Ball also was a member of the committee that developed the MasterFormat classification system.

“Roy was, and still is, a strong supporter of the CSC education programs,” Schneider said.

The awards were presented at a lunch Saturday sponsored by Reed Construction Data during the association’s 2008 annual conference in Halifax.

Wayne Watson of Edmonton received a National Award of Merit.

National Awards of Merit were presented to Edmonton chapter members David Watson, a CSC member since 1990 “who has kept the organization informed of technology trends that have changed and will continue to change the way things are done” in the Canadian construction industry and to Wayne Watson, a member for more than 40 years, who has ensured CSC “is kept informed and plays a role in the advancement of specifications.”

The association handed out its Lloyd Boddy Chapter of the Year Award to the Winnipeg chapter, which has experienced a 27 per cent growth in membership, maintains liaison with local construction and design associations and whose education program continues to thrive.
