Ontario Association of Architects produces client hiring guide

TORONTO

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has published a new guide targeted to clients, “A Client’s Guide to Engaging an Architect in Ontario.”

“The guide has been developed to educate clients and to assist architects in defining their services and negotiating the appropriate fee for a project,” says OAA President Sean O’Reilly. “The membership has identified this need and it has been our challenge to provide the information in a useful format and to publish it in a timely manner.”

OAA council made this project a 2007-08 priority. Information and feedback was gathered through a survey of practices last fall, member focus group sessions and the Professional Fees — a Need for Change breakfast and panel discussion at the association’s May conference.

“This is the first edition of the guide,” says Councillor Gerrie Doyle, chair of the fees and services task group. “We expect to receive feedback from our members.”

“There will inevitably be both positive and negative reactions from the diversity within the membership. But all feedback will assist us in refining the document while members and clients can begin immediately to use this first edition. It is a publication which will continue to evolve.”
