The new Automotive Centre of Excellence begins to take shape at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa, Ontario.

Vanbots drives ahead at UOIT Automotive Centre of Excellence

Construction manager Vanbots Construction Corp. began the Automotive Centre of Excellence facility in summer 2008. Completion has been scheduled for spring 2010.

Designed by Diamond + Schmitt Architects Inc., the project includes a six-storey research centre and three-storey climatic wind tunnel.

Consultants are Halcrow Yolles (structural); Crossey Engineering Ltd. (mechanical/electrical); Aiolos Engineering Corp. (wind tunnel); Totten Sims Hubicki Associates (civil); V.A. Wood Associates Ltd. (geotechnical); and du Toit Allsopp Hillier (landscape).

Subtrades include Boyle Excavating Ltd.; Pro Caissons Ltd.; Harris Rebar; Avenue Building Corp. (formwork); Architectural Precast Systems Inc.; Norak Steel Construction Ltd.
