An Economist’s Perspective: Three Major Construction Industry Stories for 2009

CanaData chief economist Alex Carrick tells us, from an economist’s standpoint, what the top construction stories of 2009 will be.

Here’s a brief countdown of each of the stories, beginning with number three and ending with Carrick’s pick for the top construction story of 2009.

Number Three: The growth in private-sector construction.

Number Two: The push for more infrastructure spending.

Number One: The moderation of construction costs.

In short, now is the time to build, says Carrick, in order to take advantage of lower costs and increased availability of material and manpower.

“The advantage of building now is the story that most major associations in the industry should and will be promoting as strongly as possible in the marketplace as the year progresses,” says Carrick.
