Structal lands N.Y. bridge deal

BOUCHERVILLE, Que.

The Structal-Bridges division of Canam Group Inc., has been awarded a $25-million contract for the rehabilitation, expansion and re-construction of the Alexander Hamilton Bridge and its access ramps in New York City.

The project involves eight bridges and viaducts, some with a geometrically complex design incorporating box girders, structural steel trusses and plate girders. The work will include the replacement of a concrete box-girder bridge on one of the access ramps by a steel box-girder bridge. Fabrication will take place at the Claremont plant and will be completed in 2011.

Structal-Bridges is a manufacturer of steel bridges, structural bearings and expansion joints serving the highway and railway bridge sector. Canam Group is an industrial company operating 12 plants specialized in the design and fabrication of construction products and solutions.
