Construction Safety Association of Ontario hands out 2009 safety awards
The Construction Safety Association of Ontario recently handed out its safety awards at its 80th annual general meeting. Patricia Lavigne of Vale Inco received the 2009 Roy A. Phinnemore Award for her work in making significant contributions to health and safety in the Sudbury and North Bay regions. Among her many accomplishments were occupational health and safety presentations to Sudbury high school students, a young worker safety brochure, a safety conference and legal workshop on Bill C-45.

Steve Cody of PCL Constructors Canada accepted the Gil Samson award.
Steve Cody, district loss-prevention supervisor with PCL Constructors Canada, accepted the Gil Samson award on behalf of the Ottawa Regional Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee for their achievements as a labour-management committee. Among this committee’s achievements were helping enforce the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act in Eastern Ontario and advocating for a French translation of the Construction Health and Safety Manual.
This year’s John M. Beck award went to the joint health and safety committee at the Greenfield Energy Centre Project in Courtright, Ontario.
