Could petroleum melt foam fill?

Re: Foam blocks replacing conventional fill material DCN Aug. 18, 2009.

Petroleum products cause EPS to disintegrate, can spilled petro products filter down to the EPS core?

If spilled petro products can reach the EPS and this is the same EPS I am familiar with (melts on contact with gasoline).I believe this may not be a smart solution.
