Heated bridges are a step in the right direction

Re: Becker Engineering Group builds Canada's first heated bridge , Daily Commercial News, Oct. 30, 2009

The use of geothermal technology to heat road surfaces is a step in the right direction. It is about time that this relatively old and established technology is transferred to roads and bridges.

Precast road slabs with hollow-core voids are being used in Holland above pilings too. Geothermally heated water is pumped through the gaps to maintain an above-freezing road surface.

Really fantastic stuff.
