Changing a firm's culture is easier said than done

Re: Cultural change needed to make Building Information Modeling work, (DCN Oct. 28, 2009)

Easier said than done. My company models for the glazing industry. I put this industry about three to five years behind the times both in technology and attitude. What I have witnessed at present is a huge disconnect with the BIM concept as it relates to trusting the technologies.

I have teamed up with my software provider and have given a few in house presentations to manufactures as well as glazing contractors.

With those companies taking the time, allowing our team to bring them up to speed in the modeling world, I must say, by about half way through the presentation I begin to see excitement in their eyes.

Yes there is that opportunity to gain a client, but as time goes on I am receiving great pleasure watching the transformation of this industry.

My company has made the plunge into the 3D, 4D, and 5D world.

In my 25 years in this industry I have never been so excited about what I do and what the future holds. We have had the privilege working on many high profile projects including a Frank Gehry project that opened my eyes to the necessity of modeling.

I am presently working on a BIM project which is scheduled to last for a couple of years.

Yes you are correct: Leaping into the modeling arena was a large investment and now being busier than ever in times like this makes that investment one of my best business decisions ever.
