Association of Consulting Engineering Companies honours former SNC-Lavalin CEO
OTTAWA
The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) has presented the 2009 Beaubien Award to Jacques Lamarre, former president and CEO of engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin.
The award recognizes exceptional service to the association and the consulting engineering industry.
Jacques Lamarre
“With over 40 years of experience as an engineer and senior executive responsible for managing and implementing large industrial, infrastructure and power projects in Canada and worldwide, Jacques Lamarre is one of the most respected leaders of the consulting engineering community within Quebec, Canada and internationally,” ACEC said.
Lamarre joined the company in 1967 as a young civil engineer. He subsequently held a series of senior executive positions overseeing and managing some of the company’s most highly visible and prestigious projects in Canada and internationally.
He served as president and CEO from 1996 until his retirement earlier this year. During his 13 years in charge, SNC-Lavalin grew into one of the world’s leading engineering-construction firms with more than 20,000 employees and revenues exceeding $7 billion.
“It is an honour to receive this award,” Lamarre said via e-mail. “I accept it on behalf of all the personnel of SNC-Lavalin, without who I would not be here.”
Lamarre, an officer of the Order of Canada, said the consulting engineering industry has been “an important engine” for job growth in Canada over the past 10 years.
“We all should be proud that the expertise of Canadian engineers is being recognized as among the best in the world.”
The award was presented at a recent gala dinner in Ottawa.
