EllisDon continues construction on Sifto salt storage facility in Goderich, Ontario

PAT BRENNAN

Winter winds send rollers in off Lake Huron as the freighter Mississagi loads salt at the Sifto salt mine in Goderich, Ont. Even the Canadian geese weren’t flying in this wind.

In the background is the new salt storage shed being built by EllisDon at the mine which supplies road salt to Canada and U.S. destinations all over the Great Lakes basin.

Sifto is spending $70 million to increase its salt production to nine million tons annually in 2010, compared with 6.5 million tons in 2008.
