'Now is the time to start moving toward BIM'
Building Information Modeling offers design professionals an unprecedented opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, particularly when stakeholders are separated by distance and location, says a building-software company executive.
"The great opportunity I think BIM represents is that it really is a change in your value proposition as a professional," said Monte Chapin, North American business process leader for Graphisoft, a Budapest, Hungary-based maker of architectural design software, during the recent Construct Canada show in Toronto.
Chapin went on to discuss the significant difference between the North American market’s use of BIM versus Europe.
"I would consider they’re 15, possibly 20 years ahead of us in terms of BIM adoption.”
But the revolution is underway, he said, and those who don’t get on board will be left behind.
"BIM is here, it has critical mass, if you’re not on BIM, now is the time to get to BIM, start moving toward it."
