Building energy dashboards show tenants’ resource consumption
Energy dashboards, which allow building operators and tenants to monitor and manage their resource consumption in real time via the web, offer an innovative and effective way to ensure sustainability.
“If you see it, measure it, you can control it,” Scott Demark, a partner with BuildGreen Solutions, told a seminar at last month’s Construct Canada event in Toronto.
“If you show someone their energy consumption and they can compare it to a neighbour or the Canadian average, they may do something about it; they may take action on it.
“(If) you can see your contribution to climate change,” Demark added, “hopefully that will change your behaviour.”
Rodney Wilts, also a partner at BuildGreen, went on to discuss a number of other sustainable building innovations, including fly ash as a substitute for Portland cement, as well as green roofs and living walls.
