Carrick: Canadian, U.S. GDP growth rates higher than expected

Today’s government releases of gross domestic product growth rates for the U.S. and Canada recorded changes higher than generally expected, RCD chief economist Alex Carrick reports.

For the U.S., the fourth-quarter 2009 versus third-quarter 2009 GDP growth rate, annualized, was +5.7%.

For Canada, the November 2009 versus October 2009 GDP growth rate (not annualized) was +0.4%. Both figures were well above most estimates.
