Mount Sinai Hospital receives $722,000 green grant from City of Toronto

The City of Toronto has given Mount Sinai Hospital a $722,693 grant toward helping the hospital reduce its carbon footprint and increase energy efficiency.

The grant was in the form of an incentive payment, provided through the city’s Better Buildings Partnership in a funding agreement between the city and the Ontario Power Authority’s province-wide energy conservation program.

The money will be used to fund a recently introduced Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) system for the hospital (instead of cooling buildings with in-house chillers, chilled water is brought in from Lake Ontario through an underground piping distribution network.)

Conversion to a DLWC system is expected to reduce Mount Sinai’s annual energy consumption by 2,400,000 kWh.
