Inquest to be held into Hamilton, Ontario worker’s death
HAMILTON
An inquest will be held into the construction work site death of Ryan Herbert in September, 2008. Herbert, 22, died on Sept. 28, 2008, from injuries sustained 13 days earlier during the course of his employment at a construction site in Hamilton.
Herbert fell 18 feet from the second floor stair opening of a new single family dwelling in Hamilton to the basement after standing on and breaking through a partially cut piece of wood. He sustained serious head injuries resulting in unconsciousness which he eventually succumbed to.
The inquest into his death, mandatory under the Coroners Act, will examine the events surrounding his death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last two days and will hear from approximately seven witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main Street East, Courtroom 704, Hamilton. Dr. Jack Stanborough will preside as inquest coroner and Karen Shea will be counsel to the coroner.
