First Nation plans to build hotel, water park in Truro, Nova Scotia

TRURO, N.S.

A multimillion-dollar hotel and water park will be built on Nova Scotia’s Millbrook First Nation. Chief Lawrence Paul revealed the plan during a job-creation announcement at the band’s Truro Power Centre.

Paul said it was difficult to keep the hotel and water park projects under wraps since many of the jobs created by the program will be in the construction and operation of the new facilities.

The Mi’kmaq Seven Generations Society to help train and find employment for Mi’kmaq people, is also being launched.

The society is getting $1 million in federal funding.

Another $2.5 million will come from the Millbrook, Shubenacadie and Pictou Landing First Nations, the Native Council of Nova Scotia and the Mi’kmaq Family Friendship Centre.
