Project news brief
New eco-energy park planned for Dufferin, Ontario
Dufferin Eco-Energy Park will be the home of a new organic waste facility, an energy-from-waste facility and an employment land development.
Calgary-based Alter NRG Corp. is currently undertaking a feasibility study for the energy-from-waste facility to determine the scope of work for the project.
The study will also determine if the facility should have a capacity of 25,000-50,000 tonnes of waste per annum or 65,000-70,000 tonnes of waste per annum.
Alter NRG Corp. will provide the technology that will be used to produce thermal heat from waste at the facility.
The proposed Separated Organics Treatment Facility is a joint-venture project between the County of Dufferin and the Regional Municipality of York.
The municipalities have recently issued a tender for the design, construction and operation of the facility. The selected proponent will be announced during the second half of 2010.
Construction budgets for the facilities and the employment land development have not yet been determined.
The employment land development also planned for the eco-energy park is proposed to be developed later than the two facilities.
The thermal heat produced at the energy-from-waste facility will be used to heat the buildings constructed in the employment lands.
At this time, it has not been determined when drawings and construction will begin for the developments at the eco-energy park.
The location of the new eco-energy park, in the County of Dufferin, will be at the southwest corner of Highway 89 and Amaranth-East Luther Townline in East Luther Grand Valley, Ont.
