Association of Consulting Engineering Companies campaign targets students

OTTAWA

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) has launched its awareness campaign, “Engineering Legacies,” a student-targeted effort to generate “excitement and interest” in the consulting engineering sector and dispel misconceptions about what consulting engineers do.

ACEC and its member organizations have visited every province in Canada. It says student awareness levels have increased significantly since the campaign was released, including thousands of hits each month on the www.engineeringlegacies.com website.

Social media has played a key role in reaching students, ACEC said including video modules on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

“I think students are learning for the first time what a consulting engineer actually does and that consulting engineering can be a viable career choice for many students,” said Kyle Ruttan, president of the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students.
